Habiter sa mémoire.
In Habiter sa mémoire, choreographer and dancer Caroline Laurin-Beaucage transforms the act of creation into a living performance. Moving her studio outdoors, she invites audiences to witness, in real time, the emergence of her next solo work. For four hours each day, Laurin-Beaucage inhabits a transparent 12-by-12-foot cube — a space both open and intimate — where the boundaries between rehearsal and performance dissolve.
Inside this minimalist environment, every gesture becomes both a memory and a revelation. Drawing from decades of embodied experience, she revisits the physical and emotional traces of her career as a performer. Movements unfold organically, each one a fragment of reflection, each moment an act of rediscovery. The cube becomes a vessel for remembrance — a stage, a studio, and a sanctuary all at once — where time, body, and space converge.Spectators are invited to gather around the structure throughout the day, experiencing a rare proximity to the artist’s process. The performance evolves continuously, shaped by the changing light, atmosphere, and presence of the audience. This sustained encounter blurs the line between observer and participant, offering a meditation on memory, presence, and the passage of time.
Throughout each performance, Laurin-Beaucage records vocal memos — spontaneous reflections and sensations articulated as she dances. These private thoughts are later reimagined by a sound designer into a living archive, allowing audiences and passersby to access the emotional and sonic imprint of each day’s creation.* Coproduction: Hector-Charland Theatre
