Sheena McGrandles (Northern Ireland) is a dancer and choreographer living in Berlin. She works in different contexts such as theatre/stage, education and independent art and culture projects. Her current group of works explores illogical intimacies and radical temporalities as a means of detailed exploration and exaggeration of movement. Her works create hyper-real, multi-narrative and humorous moving landscapes. Sheena presents her works nationally and internationally, including London (The Place), Amsterdam (something raw), Berlin (sophiensaele), Mexico City (Museo Universitario Del Chopo), Los Angeles (PSSST). She completed her BA at the Laban Centre London and later studied at the HZT/UdK Berlin, where she finished her MA in Solo Dance Authorship with a scholarship from the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes. She was a scholarship holder of Danceweb and a “K3”-Residency at Kampnagel (2012-13), where she developed the work “True Balls”.
From October 2013 to 2018 she was apart of the faculty of the BA “Dance, Context, Choreography” at the HZT Berlin. Sheena has worked with the artists such as Eva Meyer-Keller, Isabelle Schad, Daniel Kok, Tove Sahlin, Zinzi Buchanan and Claire Sobottke. In 2018 and 2019 Sheena concentrated on further collaborations with artists such as Ana Vujanovic/Marta Popivoda, for whom she developed the choreography for FREEDOM LANDSCAPES for the National Theatre of Ljubljana. MELONCOLIA, in collaboration with Josep Caballero Garcia at Kampnagel and TONIGHT in collaboration with Melanie Jame Wolf at Sophiensaele, Berlin.
In addition to her work as an artist, Sheena is one of the founding members of neuehäute, where she works on the development of new interdisciplinary platforms and formats for the independent scene in Berlin.
